Introduction to Department of Economics

Department of Economics originated as Department of Economics under the Co-operative Regional College, Sagaing in 1996.The Department of Economics is a major department both under the Co-operative Regional College, Sagaing and University of Co-operative and Management, Sagaing(UCMS). The Department of Economics encourages research activities and it is one of the researches and educational institutions of University of Co-operative and Management, Sagaing, whose educational programs have successfully been developed to nurture human resources who are qualified in socio-economics.

The UCMS launched Bachelor of Business Science (Regional Development) and Master of Regional Development (MRD) programme under the Department of Economics in order to fulfill not only to be able to produce human resources who are qualified in socio-economics and filled with high national and social spirit but also to produce human resources cooperating in understanding and addressing the development issues. The courses offering and faculty members in the University provide graduate students the opportunities to learn the wide arrange areas related regional development such as international trade and regional integration, development strategies, regional and urban development, infrastructure development, project evaluation and environmental management.

Vision

  • To establish the economics department as a center of quality teaching and research in economics.

Mission

  • To train students to think independently so that they are able to co-relate economic theory with current issues.

Objectives

  • To nature the potential of brilliant students in the field of economics.
  • To develop critical approach to economic theory with current economic situation.
